Proudly
Durham-born Barrie Land claims to have been the first-ever amateur
Freddy in "My Fair Lady," and in his more mature years
was occasional tenor soloist for several local church choirs. At
intervals he also directed. Professionally he taught English, mostly
to Redcar sixth-formers, some of whom he cajoled into a capella
singing. He once shared a stage with Paul Daniels. In cat-loving
retirement he pursues many practical interests and will have a go
at mending almost anything, especially clocks and old radios. He
recently acquired the mantle of Hon. Sec. for Cleveland Organists'
& Choirmasters' Association. For many years he has read at Redcar
& Cleveland College's Act of Remembrance.
